ABOUT AIKIDO

Aikido, the art of peace, offers a modern-day path to achieving inner balance. Rooted in the traditional disciplines of the Japanese samurai warriors - including jitsu (hand), ken (sword) and yari (spear) - Aikido is contemporary martial art that can effectively repel any attack, but the goal is nonviolent conflict resolution.

Aikido training combines the benefits of aerobic exercise, mindful meditation, and practical self-defense, offering a positive challenge to every individual on both physical and psychological levels. Students learn to remain centered, relaxed, and able to avoid injury when attacked.

Rather than fight against an attacker, an Aikido practitioner instead changes the attack into harmless movement. This involves blending with your opponent's movement and then subduing your opponent(s) with proper timing, precise spacing, and a variety of strikes, throws, and pins. There are no competitions in Aikido.
