July 19, 2010-
We enjoyed having visitors from Alabama at Friday testing night last week - George from Huntsville and Keith and Dana from Auburn. Congratulations to Keith on passing his nikkyu test. He was the first person to test in our new dojo! After testing, we all enjoyed dinner at the Pad Thai Kitchen. Our next testing date will be Friday, August 20. As always, class will start at 6:30 PM with dinner to follow. A special note to Emma - the RW will not be teaching next Monday, as she will be at Summer Camp in the Rockies. The RW will be teaching the remaining Mondays of this Introductory Class series after that. Hope that helps you make your training calendar for the next couple of months. A belated welcome home to Jacques, who attended DC Summer Camp. Thanks for teaching us some of what your learned!
July 4th, 2010-
The mat is down and the move is complete! Our regular class schedule will resume at the new location at 17th and Fatherland on Monday, July 5th with Ukemi Class at 5:00 PM and the Introductory Class at 6:00 PM. Thanks to everyone whose hard work over the past couple of months has made this move possible!
June 20, 2010-
Congratulations to Butch for passing his Gokyu test on Friday. Also, congratulations to Francisco on his promotion to Sandan. He tested at a seminar in Texas last weekend with his Sensei from Mexico. Our next testing date will be July 16, 2010. Class will start at 6:30 PM with dinner to follow. On a sad note, we say goodbye to Tom Wang Sensei, who is moving to Wisconsin. We will miss you and hope to see you at seminars in the future.
May 21, 2010-
Congratulations to Dave for passing his Gokyu test. Afterwards, dojo members enjoyed dinner at Fiesta Mexicana. The next testing night will be June 18, 2010.
May 15, 2010-
Last weekend, Mark and his family participated in the flood recovery effort. Today, several dojo members spent the afternoon in Shelby park helping our new neighbors with the cleanup. We picked up trash and painted the floors in the bathrooms down by the baseball field. We know that many dojo members are donating their time and skills in the community to help with the flood recovery. Thanks to all of you for your hard work. We encourage everyone who can to volunteer in the ongoing flood recovery efforts. WE ARE NASHVILLE!
May 9, 2010-
Work has started on the new dojo. We already have dressing room walls going up and drywall going up in the training space. Many thanks to all of those dojo members have and will help with the buildout. We will continue to train at the Cannery Row site until the buildout is complete. Please stay tuned to the website for updates. More frequent and detailed updates will be available in the circle at the end of class.

It was good to have Tom Sensei with us tonight for the testing.
As many of you already know, we have identified a new location for the dojo in East Nashville at 1701B Fatherland. Tom Sensei is working to finalize the lease. We will have alot of work to do to get our new dojo ready and will need everyone's help. Details will be forthcoming at the dojo and on the website.

Thank you to Saotome Shihan for a wonderful seminar. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill and for your patience.
Thank you to all the Aikidoka from around the country, old friends and new, who helped make it such a great seminar. We enjoyed training with you and look forward to training with you again in the future.
And, finally, thank you to all the members of Nashville Aikikai whose hard work made the seminar happen. Great job, guys.

It was great to have Tom Sensei visit the dojo today after class. He is recovering well. Congratulations to Jacques and Rick for being invited to train with Saotome Shihan at the Shodan seminar at the Aiki Shrine Dojo in Florida.
February 27, 2010-
Congratulations to Kai and Holden from the youth class for passing their Rokyu tests last Friday. And, congratulations to Matthew for passing his Yonkyu test. Thanks to Steve for conducting the tests. Dojo members enjoyed dinner afterwards at Fiesta Mexicana. The next testing date will be Friday, March 26, 2010. Please note that this is the 4th Friday of the month, due to Saotome Shihan's seminar the prior week. Thanks to everyone for volunteering to help with various tasks during the seminar. We look forward to a great event and will need everyone's help! Many dojo members are spending this weekend in Louisville studying with Ikeda Sensei. The rest of us wish we could be there.

Afterwards, we had a special dinner to celebrate the New Year and to congratulate Tom and Mary Sensei on their promotions to Godon. We gave them a lovely handblown Blenko glass vase as a gift - well, actually we gave them a picture of the vase because it had not arrived yet. It has now arrived and Tom showed it to us last night at class. A picture of the vase and some pictures from the testing are forthcoming. Unfortunately, the RW has to work and hasn't had time to get this all done yet. There is a new picture of the Senseis at dinner on the Home Page. Jacques, you promised me a copy of the group picture by last Saturday. Thanks to everyone who participated in Friday night's events.

Congratulations to Tom Sensei and Mary Sensei on being promoted to Godan by Saotome Shihan for "their ability and understanding of the art and have been consistent through many difficult years in their dedication to training and to teaching Aikido."
